Happy to be back!

Forgive me for my disappearance. I started this blog when I was a new mommy on maternity leave with my then baby girl. She’s now a 2.5 year old toddler and I’ve been back at my full time job (Army Medic) for about a year and a half. It has been quite the transition to full time working mommy.

Here are a few changes in my life since my last post:

• My army career keeps me pretty busy, and often away from home for days to weeks at a time. (So much harder now that I am a mom!)
• My daughter has developed into this hilarious, smart, beautiful little girl who is truly my little best friend. (Makes my world go round!)
• My Younique business has flourished into something I am immensly proud of. I am currently an Orange Status Elite Presenter! (Woot!)
• I’ve taught myself to crochet! This is something I never thought I’d do as I truly don’t have an artistic/crafty bone in my body. But I’m improving daily and I really enjoy this hobby! (Surprise surprise maybe I am sorta crafty?!)

Now that I’ve adjusted to my working mom life and have found a good balance I am so excited to be back to the world of blogging! I look forward to more regular posts and getting to know all of you!

Youniquely Confident

I mentioned before that I had become a Younique Independent Presenter this past year and how much I love the products. Well I’ve never been a girl who wore much make-up, or really knew how to apply it at all. Since becoming a Mom I’ve struggled with my body image a bit. (which I am sure we all do) In trying to make myself feel more confident again I found myself watching youtube videos on proper make-up application. I’ve learned a lot watching these amazing artists, and I’m so thankful to them for putting those videos out there. I am by no means a pro at this point. I actually have a lot to learn. But I’m getting there, one brush stroke at a time. Younique has so many gorgeous colours that every day is a new adventure playing with the colours, creating new looks for myself. I’m a firm believer that we do not need makeup to be beautiful. However, if it makes you feel a little prettier, or more confident, then wear as much or as little makeup as you want. In the end it’s all about how we feel about ourselves. I’m thankful that with this make-up journey I am starting to get my pre-mom confidence back. When I look in the mirror I am smiling more, and feeling more beautiful. Which I know projects from the inside out.

Last night after my daughter went to sleep I decided to attempt to contour and highlight my face for the first time. Again I watched a few videos, googled proper application for face shape, and spent a good hour arguing with myself over whether I have a diamond or oblong facial structure. I’m still not 100% sure I chose right. (diamond) I grabbed my brushes, and I went for it. I made a bit of a mess but I actually really enjoyed it. It was nice to have that hour (yes it took me an hour) of me time. I definitely saw a difference from how I usually apply my make-up. I still have some practicing to do, but I went to bed feeling pretty satisfied with my efforts. Most importantly, I went to bed feeling a little more confident.

My daughter is only 6 months old, but as she grows I really want to instil the value of self confidence, and self love in her. I know they say that if your mother doubts herself, or brings herself down that the daughter will grow up feeling the same way about herself. So by working on my own self confidence I know that I will be in a better position to teach those same values to her. She is so funny, smart and beautiful already, and I hope she feels that way about herself as she gets older. I will strive to make sure she sees all the amazing qualities in herself every day.

There you have it, my first attempt! Overall I’m pretty happy with the results. I posted it on my Facebook today as my profile picture and I received some really nice compliments from my family and friends. A compliment is definitely one of the biggest boosts to a person’s self confidence. However like I said above, true confidence & happiness is how we feel about ourselves.

My Younique Life

I’ve talked a bit about my goals and my family. Now it’s time to introduce the opportunity that is allowing us to start saving for travel, and one day will allow me to stay home with my baby girl full time!

Younique is a naturally based, mineral cosmetic & skin care line that is also hypoallergenic and animal cruelty free! It has been in business for just over a year. It’s based out of the USA and launched in Canada this past July. I love every single product and use them regularly. I’m so happy to have found safe products that I can use without worry, and feel comfortable sharing with my family & friends. I jumped on board for the Canadian launch date, and I haven’t looked back. I really enjoy sharing my love of these products with anyone who will listen.

Let me introduce you to a few of our wonderful products! First up is our #1 selling product that people can not get enough of!

3D Fiber Lashes is a 2 step mascara that is as naturally based as possible and hypoallergenic. The first step consists of a black collagen gel that you apply to your lashes. The second step is another wand of little black green tea fibers that adhere to the gel and cause your lashes to be thicker & longer. (up to a 300% increase!!) You apply another coat of gel to seal it it. Lasts ALL day, and washes off so easily with warm water. Say goodbye to damaging false lashes, and hello to this amazing safe alternative!! I personally have short, think, barely there lashes and with this product I am SO happy with my results. You can apply multiple coats for an even more dramatic effect. Here is a photo showing one coat on one eye, and natural lash of the other.

The next product I want to mention is our 30 gorgeous mineral eye pigments. (eye shadows) They are so highly pigmented that you need so little of the product. They are 100% All natural, with no fillers, paragons, talc, etc. And just like the rest of our products, hypoallergenic. As they are a loose mineral powder they blend so beautifully into one another to provide that perfect look! There are 15 matte, and 15 shimmer colours. My personal fave are the shimmers. They are not sparkly, they just have this beautiful iridescent look when applied. Really help bring attention to your eyes. Another cool thing? They make the perfect eyeliner when applied wet with a liner brush! I’ll never use a waxy eyeliner pencil again! So many options to coordinate your look.
